Social wealth is the trust, relationships, and shared understanding that turn capable people into a team that actually performs — the functional know-how no competitor can copy. The SWI makes it visible and measurable.

Three dimensions, eight profiles

The SWI is built on three dimensions of how people show up with others. Each is a spectrum — no end is better than the other — and the combination produces eight distinct profiles. These are tendencies, not boxes.

Relational Depth
DEEP ↔ BROAD

How people build trust: a smaller set of deep, high-trust bonds, or a wide network of connections across groups and boundaries.

Motivational Drive
INTERNAL ↔ EXTERNAL

What sustains engagement: personal values and independent conviction, or shared goals and the energy of collective momentum.

Sensemaking Style
STABILIZING ↔ CHALLENGING

Julia created the Social Wealth Inventory to turn more than two decades of research into a tool leaders can actually use. A network scholar published widely on collaboration and collaborative governance, she has held faculty and leadership roles at top public affairs schools such as Syracuse's Maxwell School, Indiana's O'Neill School, and the University of Washington's Evans School. She is Executive Director of the William D. Ruckelshaus Center and an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.

Darren leads operations, strategy, and delivery at Social Wealth Builders, drawing on two decades leading teams in healthcare, academic medicine, and mission-driven organizations — where the cost of poor collaboration shows up in patient safety, not just the numbers. He built an $11M simulation enterprise at SUNY Upstate Medical University and has led turnarounds and senior operations roles across the field. He also consults independently to leaders navigating change, which keeps the SWI grounded in what teams actually wrestle with.
